Our Camps

Why?

-Junior Doctors is the first and only doctor camp in Ireland!

-Junior Doctors will give you the real life experience of what its like to be a doctor or healthcare professional, from wearing a white coat and stethoscope, to listening to a heart to doing CPR! 

-Junior Doctors will steer you in the right direction to becoming a doctor or healthcare professional such as a physiotherapist or nurse....after all, we have all been successful in doing so and know what it takes!

-You will get to network and get to know doctors who can help guide you through your career!

-You will learn skills such as taking blood, CPR and much more!

-You will receive a certificate of completion for your CV from Junior Doctors!

-And most importantly, you will have FUN!!! 

Who?

-Secondary schools students from first to sixth year interested in a career in healthcare.

-Students are grouped into first & second year, third & fourth year and fifth & sixth year groups during the camp to tailor the camp appropriately and to give the most best possible experience!

 

-All our teachers are qualified doctors to give you the real-life experience of becoming a doctor!

What?

-You will learn a whole variety of knowledge and skills that doctors use everyday, gain the experience of what it is actually like to be a doctor and tips on getting into medicine:

Skills

 How to examine the heart, lungs and nervous system

Phlebotomy (how to take blood)

 

Basic first aid

 

Management of burns and seizures

C.P.R.

Knowledge

Anatomy (what the body is made of)

 

Physiology (how the body works)

 

Diseases

 

Emergencies

 

Harmful effects of smoking, alcohol and drugs

Getting into medicine

How?

-All classes are small sized (limited to 15 students) to tailor individual wants and needs to the group and provide the best experience(this unfortunately limits our intake capacity so book early to avoid disappointment!)!

 

-Methods used replicate those used in medical schools; interactive discussion, dissection, anatomy models, hands-on practice of skills and scenario simulation.

When?

-July - August 2017. Click for available dates.

 

-Camps run from 10am - 4pm, Monday to Friday.

Where?

-Centres in North Dublin (St Paul's College, Raheny, Dublin 5) and South Dublin (Cabinteely Community School, Cabinteely, Co. Dublin) .

 

-Coming to Galway, Limerick and Cork soon!

-Knowledge; anatomy (what the body is made of), physiology (how the body works), diseases, emergencies, harmful effects of smoking, alcohol and drugs

-Getting into medicine; picking subjects for the leaving certificate, HPAT, studying abroad, how to get into medicine if you are initially unsuccessful

-Doctor Life; career paths as a doctor, day in the life of a doctor, practical issues of being a doctor
